Chapter 6: The Design Challenge (46 pages)
In chapter 6, Norman outlines the different challenges that designers face when designing new products. He described the history of the typewriter and the difficulties of designing a faucet. He gave many reasons as to why designers go astray: aesthetics first, they aren't users, their clients might not be users. Norman also discussed "creeping featurism" as a temptation that designers encounter.
Discussion
I see this all the time in software that I use. The clothing store I used to work out had a completely terrible system of inventory/check out. I couldn't believe that someone actually paid money for that software.
